Hiring an interim specialist in Eindhoven
Looking for an interim marketing manager, interim manager or interim specialist for your marketing, website, webshop or brand? Since 2010, Brandable has worked with a permanent core team and a broad network of experienced people who temporarily take over a role at our clients: interim marketing manager, interim e-commerce manager, interim online marketer, interim web developer, interim designer and interim CRM or AI specialist.
The difference with a random staffing agency or platform: we know these people. We have worked with them, we know what they can do, how they communicate and where they excel. You are not hiring a profile — you are hiring someone whose work has already proven itself, with Brandable as backup when one person is not enough.
What does "ad interim" (a.i.) mean?
Ad interim is Latin for "in the meantime". Someone who holds a position ad interim fills that role temporarily, until a permanent successor is in place or a project is finished. You often see it in the job title: CEO ad interim, interim director, director a.i. or interim marketing manager.
A few terms that often get mixed up:
- Interim (or ad interim, abbreviated a.i.) — someone temporarily takes over an existing role, including its responsibility.
- Acting — the everyday English equivalent (acting director, acting CEO), usually filled internally.
- Freelance — a clearly defined assignment with the freelancer's own way of working, without a place in the org chart.
- Secondment — someone employed by an agency is temporarily placed with you.
Note on language: "at interim" is a common mistranslation. The correct term in English is ad interim, or simply interim director / interim manager. In Dutch you will also see waarnemend and the abbreviation a.i.
Why hire an interim specialist?
- Close a gap fast — after a departure, during illness, parental leave or a vacancy that stays open too long
- Role and responsibility — an interim professional joins meetings, steers and decides, instead of just executing
- Productive from day one — experienced people do not need a quarter to get up to speed
- Calm in the team — running campaigns, releases and client commitments continue while you search for a permanent hire
- An outside perspective — someone who has seen ten comparable organisations spots what is being left on the table
- Knowledge stays behind — a good interim documents, hands over and leaves the team stronger
- Scale up or down — two days a week or full time, three months or a year
What to watch out for when hiring interim
Interim works very well — but not automatically. These are the places where it goes wrong in practice, and how to avoid that.
- A vague assignment — "get marketing back on track" is not an assignment. Define a goal, a period and a measurable outcome.
- Mandate — an interim without decision-making power costs money and delivers little. Put in writing what they may decide, and up to which budget.
- Proof over CV — ask for actual work, results and references at comparable organisations, not for a list of tools.
- An interim assessment up front — spend the first two to four weeks on a baseline: what is in place, what works, what the priority is. Plan after that, not before.
- Interim results — agree what should be visible after one, three and six months, and actually measure it.
- Handover and access — everything in your accounts and environments. Website, ad accounts, analytics, CRM and source code are yours, always.
- Ownership of work and data — put copyright, licences and data processing (GDPR) in writing, even for short engagements.
- Employment law — in the Netherlands, the Wet DBA (false self-employment) is enforced again. A self-employed professional filling a position under your authority looks like employment. Work with a clear assignment agreement and a defined result, or deliberately choose secondment or a temporary contract.
- Plan the exit from day one — schedule the handover to the permanent successor before the interim leaves.
- Price versus return — an hourly rate tells you nothing. Calculate what the result is worth.
That last part is exactly where we add value: if someone drops out or more capacity is needed, another person from our network or our own team steps in.
Which interim roles can you hire from us?
Our network maps one-to-one onto our services. These are the roles we regularly fill on a temporary basis:
- Interim marketing manager — strategy, planning, budget and team, see online marketing
- Interim online or performance marketer — keeping SEO, SEA and conversion running
- Interim e-commerce manager — revenue, assortment and optimisation of your webshop or Shopify store
- Interim web developer — continuing work on websites and applications in Webflow, WordPress or code
- Interim web designer / UX designer — web design and user experience
- Interim content marketer or copywriter — keeping content and copywriting moving
- Interim CRM or HubSpot specialist — implementation, adoption and reporting
- Interim AI specialist — putting AI and AI agents to practical use
- Interim manager or director a.i. for the digital domain — the bridge between management, marketing and IT
Interim, freelance or agency — which fits?
- Interim fits a temporary gap in your organisation: someone who takes over a role, joins the team and owns results.
- Freelance fits when the assignment is clear, one discipline is enough and you can steer yourself. See hiring a freelance specialist.
- An agency fits when several disciplines are needed, continuity matters and you would rather not direct it yourself.
We do all three — and we will tell you honestly which option delivers most in your situation, even when that is the smallest one.
Interim in Eindhoven and the Brainport region
Our office is in the centre of Eindhoven, on Willemstraat, within walking distance of Eindhoven Central Station. So our interim professionals can genuinely sit at your table — in Eindhoven, Veldhoven, Best, Helmond, Tilburg, Den Bosch and across Brabant. Working remotely is fine too; most engagements are a mix. How hiring interim through Brandable works
- A short call — we clarify the role, the mandate, the period and the budget.
- A proposed match — you get one or two concrete candidates from our network, with work and references.
- Meeting them — you decide whether it clicks, professionally and personally.
- Agreements in writing — assignment, mandate, hours, rate, duration, ownership and handover.
- Baseline and plan — the first weeks are for the interim assessment and setting priorities.
- Get to work, measure, hand over — fixed evaluation moments and a handover planned from day one.
No long commitments and no candidate we "happen to have available". If nobody in our network fits, we say so.
Frequently asked questions about hiring interim
What does ad interim mean?
"Ad interim" (a.i.) means "in the meantime": someone fills a position temporarily, until a permanent successor is in place or a project is completed. Think of a CEO ad interim or an interim marketing manager.
What is the difference between interim and freelance?
An interim professional temporarily takes over a role in your organisation and joins meetings and responsibilities. A freelancer works on a clearly defined assignment with their own way of working. In practice the two overlap; what you need depends on how much direction you want to keep yourself.
What does an interim specialist cost?
Rates differ per role and level of experience; for most interim marketing, e-commerce and digital roles the market sits roughly between 85 and 165 euros per hour. We give a realistic indication up front for your situation, including the expected commitment per week, so you can decide on return instead of hourly rate.
How quickly can an interim professional start?
Usually within one to two weeks. When it is urgent it is sometimes faster, because we work with people we already know and do not have to start searching.
How long does an interim assignment last on average?
Three to nine months is most common: long enough to genuinely change something and hand it over, short enough to stay flexible. Two days a week for six months is just as common as full time.
What is an interim assessment?
A baseline at the start: what is in place, what works, what costs money and what the priority is. With us it usually takes two to four weeks and produces a plan with interim results, not a thick report.
How does Dutch employment law (Wet DBA) apply to interim work?
It matters more with interim work, because taking over a position can resemble employment. We use assignment agreements that set out the assignment, the result and the independent way of working, and we help you choose the right form (assignment, secondment or a temporary contract). We are not a legal advisor.
Do you work outside Eindhoven?
Yes. We are based in Eindhoven but work with clients across the Netherlands and sometimes beyond.
What if the interim professional turns out not to fit?
Then we look for a different match or cover it internally. Because we work with a network and our own team, your organisation does not have to stand still.
