What is Leadinfo and what can it do for B2B?

Leadinfo identifies which companies visit your website. How the technique works, what you can and cannot get from it, and what to watch out for.

Leadinfo is a B2B tool that identifies which companies visit your website. A script on your site compares a visitor's IP address against a database of business IP ranges and company data. When it matches an organisation, you see which company visited, which pages they viewed, for how long and how often.

This page explains how the technique works, what you can realistically get from it, where the limits are and how to use it properly. For wider context, see lead generation and lead scoring.

How company identification works

  1. A visitor lands on your site and the script logs the visit.
  2. The IP address is compared against a database of business IP ranges.
  3. On a match, company information is retrieved: name, industry, size, location, sometimes registry data and public contact details.
  4. The visit behaviour is attached to that company profile and reported, with triggers and integrations into your CRM or email tool.

The key point: identification is about organisations, not people. You do not see who was behind the laptop.

What it gives you in practice

  • Prioritised follow-up. A company that viewed your services page three times plus your case page is a warmer signal than a one-off blog reader.
  • Account-based work. With a target account list, you see which targets are already looking around.
  • Campaign validation. Is your LinkedIn campaign actually pulling in companies from your target group?
  • Content judgement. Which pages get viewed by exactly the companies you want to reach?
  • Timing. A returning visit after a quiet period can be a reason to reach out.

Where the limits are

  • Not all traffic is traceable. Home workers, mobile networks, VPNs and consumer ISPs give no usable match. See VPN.
  • Recognition is not intent. A visit from a large company can just as easily be a job applicant or a competitor.
  • Noise at big organisations. In a corporate group you don't know which department or site was looking.
  • No personal data from the visit. Contacts you see come from company profiles, not from the browsing behaviour.

Treat the data as a signal, not a lead. An identified company is a reason to look, not a reason to call saying "I saw you were on our site" — that usually backfires.

Privacy and careful use

Vendors position IP-based company identification as GDPR-compliant because it concerns organisations. Responsibility for how you use it stays with you. Practically:

  • State in your privacy statement that you use visitor identification and why.
  • Respect your cookie and consent settings; only load scripts when you're allowed to.
  • Keep no more data, and no longer, than needed, and limit who can access it.
  • Be restrained in follow-up: don't refer unprompted to someone's browsing behaviour.

If you are unsure about the legal side in your situation, run it past your own privacy advisor or lawyer.

What it costs and when it pays off

Leadinfo uses subscriptions that scale with the number of identified companies per month. Current tiers are on the Leadinfo pricing page.

Return depends mainly on two things: do you have enough business traffic to identify anything, and is someone actually acting on the signals? Without follow-up it is a dashboard nobody opens.

Frequently asked questions about Leadinfo

Does Leadinfo work for B2C?

Barely. Consumer traffic comes from consumer ISPs and cannot be traced to an organisation.

How do I connect Leadinfo to my CRM?

Through standard integrations (CRMs and email tools) or webhooks, so visit behaviour lands as an activity on the right account.

Can I combine Leadinfo with forms?

Yes, and you should: forms deliver real contact details with consent, while company identification adds context around that contact.

Are there alternatives?

Yes, several vendors offer company identification. Compare database quality for your market, integrations and the match rate on your own traffic during a trial.
