Advertising

An ad is a paid message placed on a platform or website to earn attention, visits or a purchase.

An ad always has the same parts: a message (copy), usually an image or video, a place people land (the landing page) and a reason to click. Change one of those four and the result changes, even if the rest stays identical.

It looks different per platform. On Google it is often a search ad responding to a query; on Meta, TikTok and Pinterest your ad appears between other content, shown to people who were not searching. That difference sets the tone: in search you answer a question, on social you have to earn attention first.

What makes an ad work is usually not the format but the match: the right offer, for the right group, at the right moment, with a page that delivers what the ad promised. Testing several variants side by side almost always beats perfecting a single version.

Tip

When results disappoint, look at the landing page and the offer too, not just the copy or the image. That way you find the real opportunity faster.
