What does Emergent cost?

Credits are the only currency. This is what drives them, where your budget really goes and how to stay in control.

Like most AI app-building platforms, Emergent works with a credit model: you don't pay per feature but per usage, measured in credits that vary by plan. That makes "what does Emergent cost" a question you can only answer properly once you know how heavily you plan to build. This article explains the model as it appeared on emergent.sh/pricing at the time of writing (August 2026), with one important caveat: Emergent has changed its pricing and features multiple times in the past, so always check the current page before basing a decision on the figures in this article.

The credit model in brief

Emergent has five plans, each with its own monthly credit budget. Credits are the unit used to bill usage of the AI agent (building, editing, deploying). An important open question, which we return to below: the pricing page itself does not specify how many credits a specific action (a prompt, a build, a deploy) actually costs.

Plans at a glance (snapshot, August 2026)

The table below is a snapshot of emergent.sh/pricing. Prices, credit amounts and feature lists may have changed since — check the source for current figures.

Source: emergent.sh/pricing, accessed August 2026. The struck-through monthly prices ($20, $200) appear to be the regular monthly rates, with a discount for annual billing ($17, $167). No fixed amount is stated for Business and Enterprise; you request a demo for a custom quote.

What drives your usage

With a credit model, the question isn't "what does the subscription cost" but "how quickly does my budget run out". Based on how this type of platform typically works (and as is also the case with comparable tools like Lovable), the following factors generally drive usage:

  • Number and size of prompts/edits — more and larger build requests cost more.
  • Iterations on the same problem — if an edit doesn't succeed in one go, each new attempt costs credits again.
  • Use of heavier features — Pro features like "Ultra thinking" and the large context window are probably tied to a pricier plan for a reason.
  • Deploys and builds — actually taking an application live is presumably a separate action that costs credits, on top of the building itself.

We deliberately say "presumably" and "probably" here: Emergent does not explicitly document this usage mechanism on the publicly accessible pricing page.

The open question: which action costs how many credits?

This is the most important caveat about the whole model. Emergent's pricing page does state the monthly credit budgets per plan (10 / 100 / 750 / custom / custom), but nowhere specifies how many credits a single prompt, a build cycle or a deploy consumes. A documentation page that would normally explain this (docs.emergent.sh) was unreachable during our research, so we cannot fill in this gap with certainty.

In practice, this means you can't accurately calculate in advance how much a project will cost you — only how much budget you have per month. For anyone wanting to keep to a tight budget, that's a real risk.

How to avoid budget surprises

As long as the precise usage model isn't publicly documented, we recommend:

  1. Start on Free or Standard to get a feel for how quickly your credit budget shrinks given your way of working, before switching to a pricier plan.
  2. Ask Emergent directly (via the "Book a demo" option or support) about the exact credit cost per action, especially before committing to Business or Enterprise-level volumes.
  3. Work in small, targeted steps rather than large, vague build requests — on virtually every AI app-building platform, this is the main way to limit waste, even without knowing the exact calculation rules.
  4. Provide concrete error information when debugging instead of vague complaints, so you don't burn credits multiple times on guesswork.
  5. Actively monitor your usage, especially on Enterprise where a "Credit Usage Reports and Analytics Dashboard" is listed as a feature — use that reporting if you have it.
  6. Get in touch before starting a large project if you depend on a predictable monthly budget; based on the current public information, you can't reliably calculate this yourself in advance.

Total cost of ownership: more than the subscription

The Emergent subscription, just like with Lovable, is only one line on the bill. Also budget for:

  • Building: the subscription itself, plus any extra credit purchases if your monthly budget isn't sufficient (possibly from Standard onward, where "Purchase extra credits as needed" is mentioned).
  • Hosting: on Standard and Pro, Emergent hosts your project itself ("private project hosting"). If you want to self-host in your own cloud, that's only available at Enterprise level (VPC setup), at a custom (non-public) price.
  • Management and ongoing development: a prototype that goes into production keeps costing credits as long as you continue developing it. This is not a one-off expense but a recurring cost, as with any AI app-building platform.
  • What's not included in the subscription: things like a custom domain, external integrations outside the platform, and — crucial for production use — independent code review, testing and authorization checks. These aren't standard with an AI app-building platform and require separate time or an external party.
  • Lack of clarity on export: the pricing page lists "GitHub integration" and "Fork tasks" as Standard features, but doesn't explain exactly what this means for ownership and portability of your code. So don't automatically count this as "full, free code export" without verifying it yourself.
