SEO Chrome extensions: 5 handy tools for quick checks

Five browser extensions for quick SEO and GEO checks while you're on a page.

Brandable·Eindhoven

Not every SEO check needs an extensive tool or a crawl of your whole site. Often you just want to know quickly: what title and description does this page have, is the heading structure right, is there a canonical, and what does a crawler see with JavaScript off? Chrome extensions are ideal for that. You click an icon while on the page and see it right away. On competitors' pages too.

These are the five extensions we use most ourselves, and what for.

SEO Minion

SEO Minion is a free all-rounder for quick on-page checks.

  • On-page analysis: title, description, headings (H1 to H6), canonical, robots settings and alt texts in one overview
  • Finding broken links: highlights links on the page that return an error
  • Hreflang check: verifies that language versions point to each other correctly, useful for a multilingual site
  • SERP preview: shows how your title and description look in Google
  • Search results in other countries: view Google results as if searching from another country or city

Use it for: a quick health check of a page, and checking hreflang after a launch.

Meta SEO Inspector

Meta SEO Inspector shows all of a page's metadata in one place: regular meta tags, but also Open Graph and Twitter tags, canonical, hreflang and structured data. It warns about common issues, such as a title that's too long or a missing description.

Use it for: checking how a page will be shared on social media and whether the metadata is complete.

Detailed SEO Extension

Detailed SEO Extension gives a clear panel with the key SEO elements in one click: title and description with length, URL, canonical, robots tag, word count, heading structure, links, images and structured data. You can export headings and links too.

Use it for: quickly analysing the structure of a competing page, or building a content brief from the headings of top-ranking pages.

Glippy

Glippy doesn't look at classic SEO, but at GEO: how ready a page is for AI search engines and AI agents. The extension gives a score from 0 to 100 with a grade (A to F) and a breakdown per category, such as structured data, semantic HTML, machine readability, citability, author and organisation signals, and whether AI crawlers like GPTBot and ClaudeBot are blocked. You get tips per weak category.

Use it for: a first picture of where a page gets in the way of AI systems. Treat the score as direction, not truth: there's no official GEO score from ChatGPT or Google.

Quick JavaScript Switcher

This small extension turns JavaScript off and on with one click for the site you're on. Simple, but very valuable: many AI crawlers don't execute JavaScript. What you can't see with JavaScript off, some AI systems can't see either.

Use it for: checking whether your key copy, prices, links and figures are visible without JavaScript. See an empty page or missing sections? Then server-side rendering or prerendering is the conversation to have with your developer.

How to combine them

  1. Quick JavaScript Switcher off: is your content there?
  2. Detailed SEO Extension or SEO Minion: are title, headings, canonical and links right?
  3. Meta SEO Inspector: is metadata for social and structured data complete?
  4. Glippy: where are the remaining opportunities for AI search?

Extensions are quick spot checks, not a replacement for a full-site crawl or Search Console data. For that, use tools like Screaming Frog and Google PageSpeed Insights. Want to measure whether you're actually mentioned in AI answers? See tools to track AI visibility.

Frequently asked questions

Are these extensions free?

The basic features are free. Some, like Glippy, have a paid version with extra features.

Do extensions replace an SEO tool?

No. They're useful for spot checks per page, not for analysing your whole site.
